An open letter to Jordyn and Kylie.
You don't know me and I am almost certain our lives will never cross paths. I am a pretty simple young professional who admittadly didn't know much about you or your life for most of my twenties. I am not a KUWTK fan (Sorry Kris) and when your names pop into the media I consume, I didn't pay much attention.... until two weeks ago.
My instagram feed was flooded with images and captions that shared details of a typical L.A. party weekend. The difference this time was that the girl being painted as the villain was being pitted against her very best friend. I couldn't help but start to pay attention. I watched as social media did what it does best... turned a mole hill into a mountain at the speed of light and destroyed a bond between two women.
This whole thing has been on my heart, and even though my world is very different from yours, I have to tell you... True friendship does not come easy.
True friendship takes time, and the two of you have put in the time. True friendship also takes two people, and the thing about people is... people make mistakes. We are all humans, and we all make mistakes- you can bet on it. It is rare in this world to find a friend who is there for you when you mess up, but when you find that friend.. don't lose her.
What a beautiful picture it is when a friend can come to you and say, "I messed up" and the response is grace. You both have the ability to change the conversation with one tweet... and I can only imagine a world we would live in if the young women with the power of the media had grace for each other.
I am sure you are both hurting, and having your lives on display for America to watch is surely more pressure than one girl should ever have to withstand.... but I hope you can work through this to show young girls that true friendship can withstand a mistake. True friendship is there when the cards are against you and true friendship shows up when the world thinks it shouldn't.
I have been blessed with this kind of friendship, and I can tell you... it is worth fighting for. No matter how many lipsticks you sell or businesses you start, life is better with true friendship.
Hoping for you,
