Why did I leave you may be wondering... why would a young professional, who has advanced through a company like a a knife through melted butter, leave? However complicated the story could get, it boils down to one thing...
Obsessing over the goal. I have read books about Elon Musk and Phil Knight, and books about presidents and day planner makers, I have read more books about success than I can count and the one single most common thing I have found in these stories is the OBSESSION over the goal. These success stories are tales of people who have singled out their focus and obsessed over it. They obsessed every day and when the right opportunity arose, they were ready. I was ready. I have obsessed over learning about marketing, healthcare, and the drivers of each. I knew healthcare marketing was the goal, and I strategically maneuvered my career to give me the skills needed when the opportunity arose. And the opportunity arose. You may be in a job where the benefits are great, the watering hole conversation isn't too bad, and the PTO is unheard of... but is it the goal? If the answer is no... name your goal. Write it down and chase the hell out of it. Obsess over where you want to be next year. Do you want to be in the same office with the same old carpet on the floor? If no. This is your sign. Start obsessing over where you want to be. Put that goal on a post-it on your mirror and don't forget it. It is a scary adventure to leave a good job, but you will find that taking the leap will give you more than you could ever ask for. Leaving a job will give you more courage and inspiration than you could ever leave behind. Do it. Expand your network and find your obsession. A job never has to be a job if you are living your obsessed goals. So here is the part I tell you to be ready when the dream job calls. Be ready and leave the good job for the dream job. -KC

I did this. I had a cushy job at FedEx. The youngest Meteorologist to ever work in the department (26, what??). But I couldn’t see myself in that same office, doing the same thing, 20 years from now. So I left 3 years into my “career.” I’ve stumbled, but now I’m on the road to my dream job. In fact, I have my dream job, I just have to work my way up through the ranks. This is what our generation does, we obsess over the goal. Obtain that goal and kick its butt Kayla! We got this!
