**Quick Review for the Lady Boss**
Keep it Shut is a great read to help us lady-bosses learn the art of words. As the book unfolds we learn a lot about Karen (the author) and how she managed to get into more trouble with her words than she could handle.
I personally love the concept Karen shares of discerning what is gossip and what is not. Gossip is a real thing, and if you are battling glass ceilings, running with the wolves, or managing a home.... gossip can ruin the respect you've earned. Leadership (especially for female leaders) has no room for gossip. Oversharing information that was not yours to begin with can negatively affect the influence we have worked so hard to build.
We also read how relationships are saved by pausing and responding instead of reacting (a fairly well known concept, but important nonetheless). Relationship and connection are an asset women have in the workplace over men: SO build relationships well and avoid conflict by refraining. REFRAIN LADIES, JUST KEEP IT SHUT. If it doesn't build up, don't say it. A practical way to refrain is to take 24 hours before you respond to a horrifying email you receive. This allows your brain to fully process a response of kindness before your mouth (or fingers for those email queens) speaks for you.
Thanks, Karen , for teaching us so much.
We give this book a 3/5
